With the help of the dictionary, you would easily determine what the definition of motivation is. Just take note that there are some differences among the several definitions found in the dictionary. However, one would be able to get the meaning of this word given by just reading the definition. Below are some examples on how to apply the definition of motivation in daily life.

The first definition would be the motivation to act. This is the most obvious definition when it comes to the definition of motivation. A person may be motivated to do some action because of some emotion or feeling he may have. For example, a person may be very motivated to get his soon-to-be wife a ring since it would make him feel good. At the same time, he doesn’t think that he has the capacity to go through the pain of getting it just because his emotional state is in a high state of excitement.

Willingness To Take Action

Secondly, it would be the willingness of the person to take certain action or move in a certain direction. In fact, this is the reason why people engage in some kind of activity. For example, if a person has some plans to buy a new car, he would need to put aside his feelings of lack of money for the moment and look at the benefits that buying the new car will give him once he finally buys it. He wouldn’t be thinking about the negative effects on his finances and would be ready to exert the necessary effort to achieve his goal. At the same time, another person may be motivated to lose some weight because he is already feeling the pains of obesity and wants to do something about it.

Not Always Applicable

However, this definition of motivation may not always be applicable. For example, we all have different personalities. Some of us are extroverted, while others are introverted. Some of us are happy campers while others are pessimistic. There are others who have a lot of energy and others who are low at heart. Yet, they all are really motivated to do the things that they have set out to do.

Another important factor that should be considered when looking for the definition of motivation is how the definition applies to human action. It doesn’t always mean that you have to do something that you feel strongly about. There are times when you have no idea what you should do and you just automatically do it. Sometimes, this is so automatic that your only option is to do whatever it is. In these situations, you shouldn’t be judging or reprimanding the person as this will just make matters worse.

Final Words

Once you understand the definition of motivation, you will realize that there is no single definition for motivation. Each person may have a different definition and that is okay. What is important is that you understand what it is and how it applies to your situation. Sometimes, you may even come up with unexpected results. That is definitely not a bad thing.
