It is important to realize that although the way we feel about things can often be exaggerated or false, it is possible to make sense of our emotions and determine if the situation is something that we can handle. Or if it needs to be dealt with more appropriately.
When we try to learn how to improve self-control, we often find that it involves giving ourselves time to let things sink in. Sometimes we will notice that we are really not feeling as upset about something as we originally thought. In these instances, it is important to pay attention to the things that we may be thinking and talking about that could be causing us to feel upset.
In other instances, we may need to take a moment to evaluate if the situation is worth it for the short term. It is also important to realize that we can learn how to better manage the negativity in our lives and cope with the difficulties that we encounter.
By trying to improve self-control, we are often dealing with a sense of paralysis where we can’t think of any ways that we can be proactive about improving our emotional state. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to become aware of the negative feelings that we are having and learn how to better manage them.
In some cases, we may need to work on becoming more optimistic about our ability to improve self-control. When we are aware of our own weaknesses and know that we can handle them, we will be able to do so.
When we recognize that we can overcome challenges and still remain happy and healthy, we can start to feel sorry for ourselves and begin to think that it will be impossible to maintain self-control.
